Margaret is known worldwide for her books on quiltmaking. Most particularly, she is known for her pieced animal designs, published in many books, including her own A Quilter's Ark and Quilt a Koala. Interested in quilt history, she has researched and written two books on the history of quiltmaking in Australia. In 1999, Margaret teamed with Judy Hooworth to write Spectacular Scraps. Underlying all Margaret's work is a fascination with pattern, whether patterns made from her beloved animals or patterns used in traditional and scrap quilts. In 2001, Margaret was honoured for her contribution to quilting in Australia by being appointed a member of the Order of Australia.
